…………… Since childhood, the only source of water was a polluted swamp where we got drinking water. I was born in a village where we shared our water source with domestic animals like cows, chicken, goats and ducks. We didn’t have access to safe, clean drinking water and this severely affected our school time. Many of my class mates (about 11 years old) would walk long distances and sometimes spend hours at the swamp due to the long lines of children waiting to get water. This was a daily routine since water was and is a necessity. However, we suffered from water borne diseases like typhoid fever, dysentery and diarrhea among others.
Many children in my village still have to walk long distances to get a drop of clean water. This water crisis is generally still a problem in Uganda, Africa and the globe at large. This situation inspired me to start Water Is Long Life (WILL) to provide clean, safe and accessible water. Through WILL’s implementation of WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene) solutions like drilling of boreholes/ water wells, we empower, transform and sustain lives.
